Submission deadline is Thursday 29 February
Tandem Events has announced that speaker submissions for Develop:Brighton 2024 are now open until Thursday 29 February.
Taking place from Tuesday 9 July to Thursday 11 July, Develop:Brighton offers up high-quality sessions with practical take-away and vocational content so delegates can “skill-up” and be enabled to make even better games.
“We were delighted to welcome a record attendance at Develop:Brighton 2023, with nearly 5,000 attendees across the three days. And we are excited once again to bring the game-making community together”, says Andy Lane, Managing Director at Tandem Events.
“Core to the Conference are our highly insightful and inspirational speakers, offering their talks across such a wide variety of subjects. So whatever size studio you're from, big or small, whatever your background and experience, we'd like to invite you to submit your proposed talk. It doesn’t matter if you’re not hugely experienced in public speaking, all you need is a good idea!”
The Call for Speakers page includes valuable resources for potential speakers, including:
- Help with planning your submission and preparing your talk
- Mentoring for first time and less experienced speakers
- Advisory Board members available for peer reviews of your session
- Speaker portal with guidance and tutorials to help when putting together a talk, plus links to examples of good talks
- Suggestions for hot topics and ideas for talks
“As well as recruiting speakers directly, we are keen to find new, diverse voices to join our speaker line-up and we’d like to encourage anyone from an under-represented community working in game development to submit a proposal for a talk”, Lane continued. “We are also keen for submissions to discuss the biggest topics, such as AI and XR, that are defining the industry today and in the future. It would be great to hear from a variety of voices on these topics, and shape the conversation in our industry!”
Following his successful talk at Develop:Brighton 2023, Imre Jele, founder of Atypical Types and co-founder of Bossa Studios, commented that "When you get positive feedback on your talk it’s an amazing feeling - like you’ve actually helped someone to get better at making games. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to put yourself out there and make your name and skills more visible to others in the industry.”
Geraldo Nasciemento, Lead Programmer at Lively – a Keywords studio, also wrote about his experience of speaking at Develop:Brighton 2023. He shared that “The idea for this talk had started in my head back in 2018, and to finally have an outlet for it and having that immediate feedback to my thoughts and ideas was immensely gratifying. I wholeheartedly recommend that if you’re interested in public speaking, to just go for it.”
Back for its 19th year, Develop:Brighton will be taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole.
Keynotes, roundtables and presentations will offer practical advice and insight across eight conference tracks: Keynotes, Design, Coding, Art, Mobile, Business, Discoverability, Audio. Plus, there’s the free Indie BootCamp which covers the basics for start-ups and additional free Roundtables.
Networking opportunities will also continue to be a big part of Develop:Brighton this year, from the formal meetings tool Meet@Develop to Tuesday’s informal Icebreaker and the many afterhours social events, including the Develop:Star Awards, which this year will take place on the evening of Wednesday 10 July.
